I beg my followers to check out Battle Tapes' music video for their song "Brand New" - since I figure most people don't click on Youtube links, I took the liberty of using some tools to clip just the beat drop.

The rest of the video is just as good as this.

#battle tapes #battle tapes - brand new #you would definitely believe how much trouble I had with VLC getting this to clip correctly #once I tried getting a 3-second long clip and it kept getting it wrong even though I KNEW what timestamps I was hitting “record” on #thankfully this clip is longer and a little more flexible on what timestamps are fine to record and which ones completely miss the highligh #and the ending timestamp was just...right on. Right on.#anyway VLC doesn't know how to convert files for the casual user #I had to use a web-browser based thing to do it #the tools I used:#4K Video downloader Plus (free): to get the full Youtube video because VLC couldn't stream it from the link #VLC: to clip the video down to just 10-ish seconds #Free Convert (website): to convert from .asf to .mp4 because VLC couldn't do it for me #siiiiigggh anyway hope you all enjoy this beat drop #maybe it's just recency bias that makes me think this music video is so good #oddly enough getting that inline link to work also took some doing #it either didn't create a link or it automatically embedded; couldn't choose like I can with links to other sites #Opened up a new tab. Draft a new post with its own link. Turned to HTML editor. Copied and pasted it here in this post (also turned to HTML #editor) and then replaced the link reference and the text.#and strangely during that time period I tried using AO3 links which weren't embedding either.#Link that I ended up using to get an inline link was the link to download VLC which. ha. Been having trouble there as I've said in the post #oh and by the way: all links embed at first. But in the lower-right corner there's a little bubble you can click to turn it to inline.#but for some reason that doesn't work with youtube links #aaaaaanyway #I'm done. I'm not sure exactly what posts you're talking about, it's possible I've missed seeing what you're seeing, but the tumblr posts that I've seen complaining about people criticizing season 5 have generally been directed mostly at Reddit and sometimes twitter. I'm not sure if you've ever looked at Lone Star Reddit, but that place is the definition of bad faith criticism, and often twitter is not much better. Since mid-season 5, Reddit has been made up of at least 90% negativity, maybe more, including many posts and comments saying absurd things like "the writers must have made season 5 bad on purpose as an F U to the fandom, that's the only explanation for how terrible it was." Also, anyone who tries to say anything good about the season or just says that they personally enjoyed the season gets downvoted. Generally, I'm thinking if you see posts complaining about people criticizing season 5, they aren't talking about your reasoned, good faith takes, they're instead talking about this kind of thing, which is unfortunately pretty prevalent on other platforms. Thankfully not so much here.

no i completely understand what you're saying! this sounds really frustrating and i get where people are coming from, but.... idk, to me, this feels like a reddit/twitter problem. i've seen multiple instances over the last few months of someone posting on here about s5 criticism and while they were actually talking about reddit/twitter, someone on tumblr with that opinion thought it was about them

i'm not on lone star reddit and twitter, and that's intentional. i don't want to be in those spaces and i don't want to hear what people there have to say. if someone's making the choice to go on reddit or twitter, and they have a problem with what's being said over there, i just kinda feel like they should talk about it there? bringing those things to tumblr just kind of forces us over here into a situation where those of us not on those platforms have to care what's going on over there for not really any reason.

i get venting and i think that's fine if people specify they're venting about something that happened on twitter or reddit, but i feel like projecting those feelings onto people who are not criticizing in bad faith on tumblr is really unfair

pleasant surprise: I've noticed that picsart finally stopped shoving AI down my throat. for a very long time any time I searched for stickers or a background I'd have to scroll through miles of AI slop to get to anything I would actually want to use. since starting my RE4 mods, there's literally only been one time an AI sticker showed up in a search.

#btw i use a hacked picsart apk to have all the premium stuff for free bc it's a decent enough app but not one i'd pay for #like how hard they pushed ai made me actively despise the app and i'd never give it a cent even tho it's calmed down now lol #the ai background removal tool is great tho. i don't fuck w generative ai but simply removing backgrounds is the kind of thing ai can #actually be good for. and like there were websites/apps w automatic background removal tools before chatgpt was a thing #if ai hadn't become the big Hip Thing it would probably just be called an automatic background remover or smth #deadass there's another eraser app ive been using since like 2017 and it used to have an option called auto and recentlyish they changed it #from auto to ai 💀 literally the same tool they just changed the name for hype #it irrationally annoys me bc it makes me feel like a hypocrite for saying fuck all ai while using a tool w ai in the name...#but it's not THAT ai yknow. im not asking it to create/be creative/whatever. i just let it remove backgrounds bc it's faster than manually #doing it myself. like i COULD remove backgrounds manually if i want to but why would i if i can get the same results way faster #i will never have ai create images or write for me bc the results would be worse than anything i could do. i suck at art but my shitty #playing w pngs like paper dolls edits or my shitty d&d doodles are still better than ai slop
